Family Therapy

There are many definitions of Family. Whether you are wanting repair in your family of origin, navigating a blended family, or going through a normal life transition (such as a new baby, or an empty nest). Family therapy is a great way to promote family bonds, strengthen communication, resolve conflict, and cultivate perspective and acceptance.

Trauma Therapy

Unresolved trauma can interfere in many unexpected ways. You may be using coping mechanisms such as numbing, dissociating, or remaining in a constant state of vigilance. It may be affecting your relationships, work, and daily functioning. Understanding how trauma impacts your nervous system is an important first step. I use a compassionate and gentle approach that creates a supportive environment where we can explore and process traumatic memories, learn to regulate the nervous system, and restore a sense of safety and trust and gain resilience.

Grief Counselling

There are many types of loss, and grief can be difficult to navigate. Often we associate grief with the loss of a loved one, but things such as a breakdown of a relationship, major life transitions, or chronic health issues can also cause intense pain and impact well-being.

Teen Counselling

There are many challenging factors for both the teen and parents throughout this phase of life. The goal may be to build more understanding and navigate rising conflict between the parent and the teen. It might be to help parents adjust to their changing parenting role during a time where their teen is building independence. It may be to help a teen gain clarity as they explore their identity, work through peer and academic pressure, or gain skills and strategies to handle difficult feelings.

It is important for me to view teen work as a collaboration between parents and teens. Depending on the age of your teen,  Individual therapy may be more suitable. For older teens (aged 16 and up) who are working towards more autonomy from their parents, they may require privacy to work through difficult feelings. For younger teens, I emphasize some parent involvement in sessions (11 to 15).

Benefits

Discover the benefits of profession support on your wellness journey. From personalized care to holistic treatments and systemic theories, I prioritize your health and well-being.

Holistic Approach

I believe the harmony between the mind, body, and spirit is an important aspect of healing. I integrate theories and techniques that promote understanding and connection such as grounding, mindfulness and psych-education of the the nervous system and importance of regulation and somatic release.

Experienced Practitioner

Prior to becoming a therapist, I was an educational assistant for 17 years. I completed my B.A. Honours in Psychology at University of Manitoba in 2015. During this time I had a focus in developmental psychology. This degree was followed by my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Winnipeg in 2021. I am registered member with the CACFT since 2017. I combine my lived expertise with evidence-based theories and techniques. The training I received in the MFT program requires diligent and ongoing self-reflection and integration of my own lived human experience. This self work is incredibly relevant and important so that I can be present and attentive to your needs when you are coming into my room. By working from a humanistic, client-centered approach, I collaborate with you to incorporate your values and lived experience to optimize desired outcomes.
